Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine New Old Stock Unissued WW2 issue wartime model wrist compass, as used by Airborne troops on D-Day. This example is still fully functional and is in excellent condition with the original issue leather wrist band. The band is in excellent condition with minor verdigris buildup.
The compass is clearly marked on the reverse:
CORPS OF ENGINEERS
U.S. ARMY
MANUFACTURED BY
SUPERIOR MAGNETO CORP.
L.I. CITY, N.Y.
U.S.A.
The compass was usually seen worn on the wrist (duh!), but also over the sleeve, the shoulder loops, webbing, or at the ankle over the jump boots. Wrist compasses were used both by officers and enlisted men, unlike the lensatic compass, or marching compass, which was normally reserved for officers, NCO's or men on a special mission. The strap is in great condition overall. The box measures 2¾ x 2¾ x 1”.
A lovely unissued example still in the box ready for further research and display.
